Great Western Railway (GWR) has set a new world record for the longest distance travelled by a battery-electric train on a single charge, covering 200 miles on August 20.
The record was set by a Class 230 train, a specially adapted former District Line underground train, operating on a return journey from Reading train care depot and back again, via London Paddington and Oxford without charging its batteries from any external energy source..
