Royal Town Planning Institute chief Hills to move on

30 July 2025

Victoria Hills, who has led the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) for nearly eight years as CEO, is moving on to become CEO at the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB).

She will remain in post at RTPI until later in the year while the Board of Trustees undertakes a recruitment process for her replacement.

Hills said: “It has been an absolute honour to be the CEO of the RTPI, not only because of the important place planning holds for our communities, but also because it is my own membership body”.

Hills said she could not possibly have imagined as an RTPI student member in the 1990 that one day she would have the opportunity to take the helm of the organisation. “During my time here we have seen planning rise further and further up the political agenda, both domestically and internationally, and the RTPI has been able to provide a voice for our 27,000 members throughout that process.

Having specialised in transport planning, Hills was a former chair of the Transport Planning Society.
