A plan to turn a disused railway tunnel into a cycleway has been dismissed as too expensive by transport minister Lilian Greenwood. Campaigners had asked for the re-purposing of Queensbury Tunnel, which closed in 1956, and was part of a line linking Bradford and Halifax with a branch to Keighley.
The Government says in the interests of safety the tunnel should be permanently sealed off.
