The Government has pledged to bring in new requirements to stop “socially necessary” local bus routes from being scrapped or changed at short notice. However, it said it was for councils to decide which bus routes should be defined as “socially necessary”.
Under the Bus Services Bill, which passed its second reading in the Commons on 2 June, there will be added protection of routes used by vulnerable or disadvantaged passengers, said the DfT.
