Autonomous vehicles programmed to respond with ‘social sensitivity’ to danger will result in fewer injuries during road accidents, according to an academic study.

Research shows the scheme would enable safer and more ethical decisions, especially in protecting more vulnerable road users, such as pedestrians and cyclists, said the study’s China and US-based authors, led by Hongliang Lu of The Hong Kong University of Science  and Technology.
