Bus operators in Scotland are considering fare offers to avoid a “cliff edge” when passengers no longer qualify for the under-22s free travel scheme, a Holyrood committee was informed last week.

The free travel, introduced in 2022, has helped to revive post-Covid bus passenger numbers but there are fears that young people could turn their backs on buses when suddenly they face paying full adult fares.
