English councils to get £291m over two years to encourage active travel uptake

Funding of £291m for new walkways, cycle lanes, improved crossings and junctions has been announced by the Government and Active Travel England (ATE). This allocation is for the next two financial years. A DfT spokesperson told LTT: “This Government has increased active travel funding by £100m for 2025/26, more than doubling it year-on-year.”

This will result in 300 miles of new cycle tracks and footways, leading to 43,000 less sick days every to year to ease pressure...
