Hitachi battery train trial produces bigger fuel savings than expected

Hitachi Rail’s battery train trial produced savings in fuel costs of 35% to 50%, surpassing the predicted 30%. Rail Minister Lord Hendy said the technology would play a vital role in railway decarbonisation and could open the door to a “more affordable expansion of the network”.
