Electronic tolling regulations issued

The DfT has published draft regulations to comply with the EU's recent directive on the interoperability of electronic tolling systems. The regulations will require all new electronic tolling systems brought into service after 1 January 2007 to use one (or a combination) of three technologies: GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System); GSM (Global System for Mobile communication); or 5.8 GHz DSRC (microwave technology).
