Welsh budgets have to be trimmed to prevent rail line closures, says minister

The Welsh Government will have to make substantial cuts, potentially including withdrawing all services on some lines, unless it reallocates £111m from other budgets to Transport for Wales for 2024/25, Climate Change Minister Julie James has said.

The extra money was added to TfW Rail’s £256.2m of resource funding when indicative allocations were revised ahead of the Welsh draft budget’s publication in December (LTT883).
