Work has started on a £5m development which will include £5m improvements to Glasgow Central Station.
The layout of the station will be reconfigured with a number of existing retail units on the station concourse. There will be a multi- faith room in the customer lounge on the unpaid side of the ticket gates.
Network Rail said the revamp will also create and enhance access from the Station to Caledonian Chambers by improving overall accessibility and linkage.
There will be a step-free station reception on the concourse level of Caledonian Chambers.
Conor Mclaughlin, scheme project manager at Network Rail, said: “We hope to create a broader range of retail for passengers and station users thereby improving the experience at the station.
“We are changing the layout and occupation of several existing retail units on the station concourse which involves relocating tenants, creating new retail units, making some units larger and refurbishing office accommodation.”
Find out more about these and other developments at Rail Stations + Property 2024, organised by Landor LINKS, sponsored by Burges Salmon and supported by LTT.
The event will focus on: changing travel patterns, including the resurgence of leisure travel; stations as hubs, with a focus on mobility hubs; and transport-led development with a spotlight on major UK projects.
