Nearly half of fixed speed cameras in England and Wales are currently inactive, estimates a road safety technology firm.
Road Angel undertook a Freedom of Information Act request which revealed that 46% of fixed speed cameras were not working.
Councils and police forces should either ensure all fixed cameras are active or remove them altogether, says the company.
Inactive cameras had the potential to confuse drivers and served no real purpose, said Road Angel founder Gary Digva.
