Newcastle launches consultation on scrapping free evening parking

A public consultation has been launched on plans to end free evening parking in Newcastle city centre.

Newcastle City Council is seeking to end the long-standing Alive After Five offer in city centre car parks.

Alive After Five was introduced in 2010 at seven sites to boost evening trade. However, the council argues that retail hours and shopper habits have changed since the start of the pandemic.

The proposed changes would mean car parks at Eldon Square, Eldon Garden, Dean Street, Oxford...
