For over 25 years, people travelling through south-east London have been greeted by an incongruous sentinel, a brightly coloured tank sitting on the corner of Mandela Way and Page’s Walk in Bermondsey, London.

Stompie is a decommissioned Czech army T-34-85 medium tank said to have taken part in the Soviet suppression of the Prague Spring uprising in 1968.
