Road deaths fall by 16%

Road casualty rates in Great Britain fell largely in line with the fall in traffic due to the Covid-19 pandemic, new figures from DfT suggest. However, the fall in road casualties involving cyclists seemed to exceed the drop in traffic.

There were 22,014 seriously injured and 91,847 slightly injured casualties in 2020, decreases of 22% and 25% respectively compared with 2019. There were 1,472 fatalities in reported road accidents in 2020, a decrease of 16% from the previous year. This largely...
