Control of rail infrastructure and train services will be brought under the control of a new centralised body. Great British Railways (GBR) will integrate the railways, own the infrastructure, collect fare revenue, run and plan the network, and set most fares and timetables.
Network Rail, the current infrastructure owner, will be absorbed into the public body to bring about what the government hopes will be single and accountable leadership for the national network.
