Treat historic railway estate as assets, not liabilities, say MPs

The House of Commons transport committee is calling on the Government to regard 3,200 bridges, tunnels and viaducts across Britain that make up the Historical Railways Estate as assets rather than liabilities.

Highways England is responsible for managing the Historical Railways Estate (HRE). Under a 2015 protocol agreement with the DfT, HE’s role is to reduce the liabilities from individual structures within the estate.
