Birmingham City Council has more than halved the forecast income from its proposed clean air zone (CAZ), partly because the Government is to take a bigger slice of the revenues.

Birmingham’s Class D CAZ is due to launch on 1 June, covering all roads within the city’s ring road. Vehicles failing to meet the minimum CAZ emissions standard will pay a daily charge. Cars, taxis, light goods vehicles will be charged £8 and lorries, buses and coaches £50. Time-limited...
