Too much DfT funding for urban transport is awarded to local government through competitive bidding processes, the Urban Transport Group has said.
The UTG’s new report, based on a survey and interviews with local government officers, says competitive funding streams are inefficient and costly.
The cost of preparing a bid to the DfT’s Transforming Cities Fund was in the region of £1m for some authorities, it says.
