Norwegian Airport car park fire grounds flights

3,000-space structure was nearly full when blaze started

Hundreds of cars were destroyed after a fire at a Norwegian airport car park on the afternoon of 7 January. The multi-storey car park at Stavanger Airport was nearly fully occupied when the blaze started at around 3.30pm.

The cause was a car fire on the ground floor of the five-story structure. As the flames spread, they produced smoke so thick that flights were grounded until the following morning and nearby hotels evacuated.
