Network Rail prepares big upgrade to Oxford rail capacity

A major upgrade to the ten-miles of railway between Oxford and Didcot is recommended by the Oxfordshire Rail Corridor Study commissioned by a partnership including the DfT, Network Rail, councils and England’s Economic Heartland. 

The improvements will be needed to deliver aspirations for a big increase in services through Oxford in 2028, including proposed inter-regional services between Bristol/Southampton and Cambridge making use of the East West Rail project.
