The government has approved powers for the next phase of the East West Rail project and identified the preferred corridor for the subsequent phase that will extend the route from Bedford to Cambridge. 

The second and third phases of East West Rail will see rail services introduced between Oxford,  Aylesbury, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge. The first phase, involving upgrading the Oxford to Bicester line, has already been delivered.
