London drives the decline in England’s bus patronage

Local bus passenger journeys in England fell by 29 million, or 0.7 per cent, in the year ending March 2019, according to the DfT. 

The biggest drop was in London where passenger numbers fell by 1.2 per cent to 2.20 billion, continuing a downward trend since patronage in the capital peaked in 2013/14. 

Passenger numbers outside London dropped 0.1 per cent to 2.12 billion. Journeys in non-metropolitan areas fell 0.1 per cent to 1.21 billion. Journeys in the seven metropolitan areas held...
