Sales of new fossil fuel-powered cars could continue for much longer than envisaged by the Government’s Committee on Climate Change (CCC), with hybrid vehicles likely to be excluded from any phase-out date for pure petrol and diesels.
The CCC’s report recommending a net zero emissions target for 2050 (LTT 24 May) said this would require an end to the sale of new non-zero emission cars, vans and motorcycles – including hybrids – by 2035.
