Birmingham City Council’s cabinet has approved a £25.5m programme of public realm works in the city centre. About 40,000 square metres of life-expired public realm in the retail core will be renewed, with new paving, street furniture, signage, lighting and CCTV. Other measures include installing hostile vehicle mitigation measures at 19 locations; repairing the Victoria Square fountain that has been in disrepair since 2009; and enlarging the square’s pedestrian area.
