Hydrogen’s climate impact probed

The Government is commissioning research into the atmospheric effects of hydrogen leakage from its production and distribution. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy says: “By reacting with the hydroxyl radical in the atmosphere, hydrogen increases the lifetime of methane, and the formation of tropospheric ozone. A portion of the hydrogen emitted at the surface may also be transported to the stratosphere... [where it] reacts with the hydroxyl radical to form water...
