The number of trips made by residents in England rose last year to their highest level since 2009 but the average distance travelled per person fell slightly, according to the National Travel Survey.
The average number of trips per person per year was 986 in 2018, up from an all-time low of 934 in 2015, and close to the 997 recorded in 2009. The highest number recorded was 1,097 in 1996/98.
