Midlands Connect has submitted a multi-billion pound plan to increase capacity on the region’s rail network to the DfT.
The Midlands Rail Hub proposals would cost an estimated £2bn, according to the shadow sub-national transport body, and could be delivered over a ten-year period, 2024-2033.
The works could deliver an extra 24 passenger trains an hour and 36 additional freight paths a day.
