The DFT has issued a call for evidence on opportunities to deliver new light rail and other rapid transit systems in towns and cities in England. 

In the foreword to the report, transport minister Jesse Norman says such systems could not only play a vital part in meeting the needs of urban areas, but create a new manufacturing industry in the UK. “A key further element is the need to look at how we can build industrial capacity for a new generation of light rail and related systems...
