Major cuts to public transport services in the north-east of England may be necessary in 2020/21 and 2021/22 because of funding reductions, says public transport body Nexus.
In January 2018 the North East Combined Authority’s leadership board agreed that Nexus could run a budget deficit of £1.9m, funded by reserves. Nexus has since reported permanent savings this year of £3.3m, meaning that it expects to record a budget surplus of £1.2m.
