‘Scrap traffic chief retirement age’

The Government should scrap the rule that traffic commissioners must retire at 65 because it is discriminatory and at odds with the rising pension age, a traffic commissioner has said.

The Public Passenger Vehicles Act 1981 includes a compulsory retirement age for traffic commissioners of 65. Commissioners must obtain approval from the secretary of state if they want to work to the eve of their 66th birthday.
