Lower carbon petrol consultation

The DfT is consulting on a proposed new grade of petrol that could cut carbon dioxide emissions. The proposal would allow fuel suppliers to increase the amount of bioethanol in petrol from the current 5 per cent limit (E5) to ten per cent (E10). The DfT says this could cut carbon dioxide emissions by about 2 per cent but admits that there could be about a million cars that should not use E10 because of the damage it would do to their engine.
