Walking and cycling campaigners claimed last week that Wales is not taking its pioneering active travel legislation seriously. One even suggested that the Welsh Government should repeal the Active Travel (Wales) Act 2013 unless it increased its funding and direction to local authorities.

The Act was the world’s first legislation requiring local government to plan and implement coherent networks of walking and cycling routes. It was accompanied by new design guidance.
