The Treasury has rejected London mayor Sadiq Khan’s request for a proportion of Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) revenues to be devolved to Transport for London to help pay for the capital’s roads. 

The Government is to ringfence VED in England for a new National Roads Fund from 2020/21 to fund Highways England and the new Major Road Network (MRN) of the most important local authority roads.
