The DfT’s plan to set a £20m minimum cost threshold for improvements to the Major Road Network could prompt councils to over-engineer projects, a local authority has said.
The Department is currently consulting on proposals to create a MRN of the most important local authority roads.
Highway authorities would be able to bid for funds to improve the MRN from the new National Roads Fund, created by ringfencing Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) (LTT05 Jan).
