If the case for rail to road conversion is as compelling as Paul Withrington makes it out to be (Letters LTT 2 Feb), then why has there been such little progress towards in the last 50 years? Its failure can hardly be attributed to, as he puts it, “vested interests and a bone-headed determination to ignore the facts” (whatever that may mean).
