A distance-based charging scheme for lorries, that rewards vehicles with the lowest emissions, is being considered by the DfT.

The Department has launched a call for evidence on how the existing time-based HGVroad user levy scheme could be reformed to make it more targeted at Government objectives.

The evidence call came as the Chancellor, Philip Hammond, issued terms of reference to the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC) for a study of the UK’s freight sector.
