Transport secretary Chris Grayling has announced the preferred route for the £1.6bn A303 Amesbury to Berwick Down improvement scheme, which includes a 1.8-mile tunnel at Stonehenge.
The DfT said the tunnel would “remove the traffic blight on local communities and enhance the famous landmark”. The position of one of tunnel entrance has been moved to avoid conflicting with the solstice alignment.
