The Welsh Government’s attempt to pilot free parking in town and city centres appears to be fizzling out, with many councils choosing other uses for their share of the project’s funding.
The minority Labour Government and Plaid Cymru set aside £3m for free parking pilots as part of the budget process for 2017/18. Plaid wanted Wales’ 22 councils to bid for the funds but the Government has instead paid it via Revenue Support Grant, so the cash is not ringfenced.
