The Tees Valley Combined Authority is developing a plan for a dual carriageway Darlington Northern Bypass connecting the A1(M) at junction 59 north of the town, with the A66 at Little Burdon roundabout to the east.
The CA says the new road would relieve the A167 and A1150 through Darlington, which are unsuited for the volume of traffic and high number of HGVs they currently carry.
