All vehicle fuel sold in the UK should include 5% biofuels by 2010 as part of the Government's effort to reduce carbon emissions from the transport sector.
The DfT believes that the target, embodied within its new Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation, should satisfy the EU, which has already started infraction proceedings against the UK for not setting an ambitious enough biofuels target for 2005.
