Longer, heavier lorries – bad for taxpayers and society

Trials of 25-metre (83ft), 60 tonne trucks were rejected by the Government in 2008 on safety, congestion and environmental grounds because they were and remain unsuitable for UK roads (‘Developer of longer heavier HGV awaits news of DfT review’ LTT 26 May).
