Shifting freight from road to rail would cut carbon dioxide emissions but the costs of doing so on a large-scale could be prohibitive, the DfT has said.
The Department’s Rail Freight Strategy published last September highlights the emissions reduction potential of mode shift from road to rail. But the DfT’s new Freight carbon review says it also highlighted a “range of issues that would need to be addressed to realise this potential”.
