Peter Shipp has never known a tougher time than now in his 55-year career in the bus industry, with council funding cuts, rising congestion, and the threat of franchising in the Government’s Bus Services Bill. Andrew Forster went to meet the owner of East Yorkshire Motor Services

When it comes to the Government’s Bus Services Bill, Peter Shipp uses some of the straight-talking his adopted home of Yorkshire is famed for. “I suppose my overall thought is why on earth do we need it in the first place? We’ve got enough to contend with, with what’s going on with concessionary travel reimbursement, congestion and all the rest of it. You could say we need a Buses Bill like a hole in the head.”
