Bridgend County Borough Council in South Wales is to return traffic to three pedestrianised streets in Bridgend town centre. The council says the  change is justified because of reduced pedestrian footfall brought about by changing shopping habits.

Consultant Capita was commissioned to review the risks of increasing vehicular access to the streets. It concluded that doing nothing was the safest option if road safety was the only consideration.
