Councils in the East Midlands fear the Government is backtracking on its pledge to electrify the Midland Main Line to Leicester, Derby, Nottingham and Sheffield.
The MML is currently only electrified from London to Bedford. Last September then transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin announced a new timetable for electrifying the line northwards, to Kettering and the Corby branch by 2019, and to Leicester, Derby, Nottingham and Sheffield by 2023.
