The House of Lords has inflicted a series of defeats on the Government over its Bus Services Bill, including voting to give all local transport authorities in England the automatic right to implement bus franchising, rather than just mayoral combined authorities.

The Bill has now completed its passage through the Lords and will enter the Commons. The Government may seek to overturn the Lords’ amendments, which also included removing the ban on new municipal operators.
