Ministers ‘reviewing policy on elected mayors’

There was speculation this week that Theresa May and her Government may abandon support for elected mayors amid concerns the positions lack local support and could give a platform to Labour party politicians.

The Times reported that ministers were having second thoughts on the mayoral governance model championed by former Chancellor George Osborne.
