Competition body demands tougher bus franchising tests

THE COMPETITION and Markets Authority (CMA) is calling for amendments to the Bus Services Bill to make it more difficult for local transport authorities to introduce bus franchising. 

The CMA has written to transport minister Andrew Jones, recommending that local transport authorities (LTAs) should have to demonstrate that franchising is justified before introducing a scheme.
