Press reports of big cuts to HS2 are rubbish, says McLoughlin

Transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin has played down the significance of the Government’s top civil servant  reviewing the HS2 project.

The Guardian said cabinet secretary Jeremy Heywood is looking into the project costs. The news prompted reports that parts of the scheme could be axed. 

On 14 May The Daily Telegraph’s Andrew Gilligan, who is also London’s cycling commissioner, said sizeable parts of the project could be shelved and the Treasury wanted to take more...
